Trane®, the world's leading provider of industry and indoor comfort solutions and services and a brand of Trane Technologies, today announced its latest addition to its portfolio of chillers, heat pumps, multipurpose units and scroll compressor rooftops, with R-454B low global warming potential (GWP) refrigerant. Sintesis™ Advantage CGAF air-cooled chillers with R-454B are now available in capacities ranging from 150 to 670 kilowatts (kW). These units offer up to 5% more cooling efficiency and a range of operation as extended as that of equivalent models with R410A.

The R-454B refrigerant, a non-ozone-depleting HFO / HFC blend, has a GWP level of 467, the lowest among the refrigerants available today for Scroll compressor technology. R-454B offers a 76% reduction in the direct impact of GWP compared to R-410A and 34% compared to R-32 (HFC). This feature satisfies customers' needs for a sustainable refrigerant option that secures the future of their investment and reduces the growing tax rates applied to refrigerants across Europe.

All units using the new R-454B refrigerant are tested at the testing and verification facility located in the Epinal production and design center in France. The structure represents a validation center for the development of new products that allows the simulation of any condition, even the most extreme, that could occur during the operation of an HVAC system. The tests conducted at the Trane test laboratory include the verification of the refrigeration circuits that contain the refrigerant and protect the original composition, for maximum performance throughout the life cycle of the unit.

The new Sintesis Advantage CGAF models with R-454B are part of Trane Technologies' EcoWise™ range. The exclusive range of EcoWise™ products includes systems and products for HVAC and refrigeration, as well as initiatives aimed at reducing the environmental impact of Trane Technologies products, the company itself and its customers.

Trane introduces R-454B to its entire Scroll compressor portfolio and will soon complete its range of heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems with low and ultra-low GWP refrigerants across all product ranges. Depending on the product portfolio and type of compressor, Trane offers units with R-513A, R-514A, R-1234ze and R-1233zd (E). This strategy is in line with Trane Technologies’ sustainability goals for 2030 and its commitment to reduce its customers' carbon dioxide emissions by one gigatone - the equivalent of the combined annual emissions of Italy, France and the United Kingdom.
