Thermo King, a brand of Trane Technologies, a global innovator in the air conditioning industry, today announced that its advanced Thermo King® production line in Galway, Ireland has achieved ISO 14064-1 (zero carbon emissions) certification by the National Standards Authority of Ireland (NSAI). The first company in the country to do so and one of the first in Europe.
This recognition testifies to the company's path towards achieving its 2030 sustainability commitments, which include the desire to set a good example in zero carbon emissions, zero waste in landfills, positive net balance in water use in its factories and the Gigaton challenge to reduce customer emissions by 1 billion tons.
The Advancer A-Series line of semi-trailer units, introduced last year, reduced the energy used in its manufacturing processes by 60% compared to previous models. The refrigeration units are also 30% more efficient in terms of fuel consumption than the market average. The production line has achieved the so-called "carbon neutrality" through a combination of efficiency measures and external initiatives to reduce emissions of carbon. The certification obtained is based on data relating to greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions during the entire production process, including welding, e-coating, assembly and unit testing.
The company's general objectives relating to carbon emissions have been validated by the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi). It is one of the few companies whose objectives have been validated twice.
Trane Technologies' plans include reducing product emissions by 50% in support of the Paris Agreement's goal of limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius, which requires global net carbon emissions of zero by 2050.
