Thermo King®, a leader in transportation temperature control solutions and a brand of Trane Technologies, today unveiled a new CO2 sensor for the Athenia™ range of electric heat pumps for hybrid and electric buses. The new sensor optimizes the fresh air ventilation speed and increases the air flow by actively monitoring and controlling the CO2 levels inside the buses. The sensor helps to maintain the right balance between the ventilation speed and the energy consumption of the HVAC unit, also positively affecting the autonomy of the electric bus.

Thermo King's CO2 sensor is easy to install and has been designed to work with the Thermo King CAN communication system. If the bus is already equipped with a CO2 sensor, it is possible to load the updated Thermo King proprietary monitoring software and enable the new features.

The key benefits of the new Thermo King CO2 sensor are:

  • Quick and easy installation on CAN-based Thermo King Athenia™ units, seamless adaptation and not visible to passengers;
  • Active monitoring of PPM CO2 levels inside buses and management of the supply of fresh air by the Athenia™ unit;
  • Gradual activation of the fresh air flaps to ensure uniform operation and optimized ventilation;
  • Optimized control and balance between energy saving and ventilation.
