The European Commission has just opened a public consultation on the F-Gas Regulation and its effects. All citizens and organizations are invited to contribute. The Commission seeks to gather input from a wide range of stakeholders, from public authorities to industry, business associations, businesses, civil society organizations, academia and individuals.
The EU and its member states play a leading role in global efforts to reduce CO2 emissions from fluorinated gases. Regulation (EU) no. 517/2014 was established with the aim of reducing emissions of these gases by two thirds by 2030. As this regulation preceded the international agreement under the Montreal Protocol, it requires some adjustments to ensure full compliance in the long term. Furthermore, in the context of the European Green Deal and recent technological advances, the Commission will also examine whether further emissions reductions are possible. Finally, some changes are needed to strengthen the implementation and application of the regulation.
Taking these objectives into account, the EU Commission has therefore opened this public consultation on the Gas F Regulation and its effects. All citizens and organizations are invited to contribute.
It will then evaluate the results of the current regulation and examine the possible impacts of the strategic options to improve the regulation. The consultation therefore aims to gather public opinion and evidence on the impact of the regulation, as well as a number of proposed policy options.
You can contribute to this consultation by filling out the online questionnaire.
The questionnaires are available in all official EU languages. You can therefore send your answers in any official EU language. The questionnaire is divided into three parts concerning general awareness of the fluorinated gas policy, general opinions on the regulation of fluorinated gases and specialized opinions on the choice and impact of the strategic options envisaged.
For reasons of transparency, organizations and companies participating in public consultations are invited to register in the EU transparency register.
It’s possible to participate in the consultation until 29 December 2020.
