Emerson has launched a new range of Copeland scroll compressors for commercial comfort applications designed to work with R-32 refrigerant. The new line of compressors will help manufacturers meet the requirements of the Ecodesign directive and the gradual reduction of fluorinated gases required by the F-Gas regulation.

"Compliance with the regulations and, at the same time, higher levels of product efficiency and their ability to operate with low-GWP refrigerants, represent a challenge for our customers," said Maurizio Boldrini, director of commercial comfort marketing for Emerson. “This innovative range of compressors has been carefully designed to offer state-of-the-art efficiency and reliability and is suitable for use by our customers and end-users in multiple commercial applications such as chillers, heat pumps, close control units and rooftops. We expect R32 to become the most widely used low-GWP refrigerant as a replacement for R410A in commercial air conditioning and heating in Europe due to its wide availability, performance, cost-effectiveness and low charge. The new range is produced in Europe for Europe, with a short supply chain and a centralized European distribution center strategy to ensure better service to our customers".

Emerson's new Copeland scroll YP and YPV compressors designed to work with the R32 have the following features:

• An exclusive variable compression ratio valve that reduces over-compression at part load, thus improving seasonal efficiency in both heating and cooling.
• Exclusive double compliance scroll technology that ensures maximum reliability and offers new features on the refrigerant circuit with Emerson electronics and integrated solutions.
• An optimized design of the compressor aimed at reducing the delivery temperature and obtaining the same operating range as scroll compressors with R410A.
• The widest range of multiple combinations that allows the design of R32 systems with a maximum power of 1 MW with fixed and variable speed compressors.
• Models of 20 HP and above are equipped with a new Emerson electronic compressor protection, ready for future expansion towards IoT and sensing technology.
• The entire range has been designed to fall within the PED III category as much as possible in order to avoid additional levels of complexity and additional costs to system design.
