Daikin Europe N.V. announced that it will invest 300 million euros to create a new factory in Łódź, Poland. This will be Daikin's first production base in the country. The new plant will produce residential heat pump units and will go into operation in July 2024, in addition to the existing European production bases in Belgium, the Czech Republic and Germany. These investments are in addition to the 840 million euros foreseen by Daikin Europe's strategic management plan FUSION 25, announced last year, and new investments in existing plants. This brings Daikin Europe's total investments to over 1.2 billion euros by 2025.Daikin considers Europe a priority region for the expansion of heat pump heating activities under the FUSION 25 plan. Toshitaka Tsubouchi, President of Daikin Europe, says: “As a leading company in the European heat pump heating market, Daikin takes up the challenge of facilitating the company's transition from fossil fuel boilers to heat pumps. To this end, we have strengthened our product development and service capabilities and have now decided to open a new factory in Poland. This plant will have the largest capacity of the Daikin Europe Group in terms of heat pump heating production. With this investment we aim to reach market share number 1 in each of the main countries”.Hiromitsu Iwasaki, Vice President of Daikin Europe, said: “We are expanding our production capacity through capital investments and increased employment in our existing heat pump factories in Europe. The decision to open this completely new factory in Poland shows that Daikin is responding decisively to the acceleration of demand in Europe. Poland is a country with a large number of skilled workers and the new plant will employ 1,000 people by 2025. Our efforts will allow us to produce 4 times the current volume by 2025 and to create a production system with supply stable for a fast growing market. With this new plant, we continue our proximity strategy, meaning all heating products sold in Europe are also manufactured in Europe”.Over the past decade, the European heat pump heating market has grown at a rapid pace, reaching over one million units sold per year in 2021.Patrick Crombez, General Manager Daikin Europe Heating and Renewables, says: “With the Green Deal of the European Union, European leaders have defined a clear path for Europe to become a climate neutral continent by 2050. The subsequent Fit for 55 package, as well as the most recent REPowerEU plan, accelerate action to reduce emissions and dependence on fossil fuels in Europe. Heat pumps play a crucial role in achieving these ambitions, so we expect a wide adoption of heat pumps in the coming years. By 2025, the installation of at least 3 million heat pump heating units per year is expected, equal to an annual growth rate of about 30%. Obviously with Daikin we intend to reaffirm our leadership by investing in the future”.
