"Italy should follow the German example as soon as possible and face the air quality problem in schools. Germany recently decided to invest 500 million euros on adaptation of installations and the adoption of new systems that help to strongly contrast the infection from the Sars-Cov-2 virus". Filippo Busato, president of AiCARR, the Italian association for air conditioning, heating and refrigeration, writes in a note, commenting on what was decided in Germany.
"The supply of external air (the "renewal") through mechanical ventilation improves the quality of the internal environment, with positive effects on the hygiene conditions and health of students and school staff. Germany has shown a sensitivity on an issue that in Italy has not yet met the right consensus, at various institutional, legislative and technical levels. A consensus that should have matured a few months ago, before the arrival of winter that is upon us, a season in which one is naturally led to live in the internal buildings, first of all schools. This aspect has been stressed several times by AiCARR, also in consultation with the National Council of Engineers and the Italian Environment and Safety Association. Even the Italian government, as happens in areas such as fire safety or anti-seismic safety, must introduce in the guidelines for the conduct of school life strategies aimed at improving the quality of indoor air while preserving the conditions of thermal comfort".
